As mentioned, a “recreational vehicle” can mean just about anything that allows you to relax and enjoy yourself. Typically, most people shipping recreational vehicles are looking at shipping a trailer or a motorhome – you know, an RV. Something as large as an RV will almost always require a special type of transport truck, known in the auto transport industry as a “flatbed auto transport truck” or a flatbed carrier, because an RV won’t fit on a standard open carrier and most of the time won’t fit into an enclosed container. Flatbed transporters are more expensive than even an enclosed transport truck, mainly because they’re called in only to haul something incredibly heavy, like an RV or construction equipment.

Other recreational vehicles include things like ATV’s, quads, minibikes, things of that nature. These types of vehicles are, of course, much smaller than a motorhome or travel trailer, and therefore probably won’t cost as much to ship. Something like an ATV or a quad bike will most likely be considered a variant of a motorcycle as opposed to a recreational vehicle, which means you’re not going to have to spend near as much money shipping something so much smaller and easier to handle. Things like quads, minibikes, motorcycles and ATV’s will most always be crated prior to transport, to better protect the vehicles from damage and also because it’s the easiest way to secure them during transport. Something like a dune buggy, on the other hand, may or may not fit on a standard open transport truck, depending on its size.
